Jane Foster is a quirky designer from Devon known for her bold and bright character artwork.
Growing up in the Essex countryside, Jane's creativity may have come down to both parents who loved making things- one example being an old fibreglass canoe!
Jane was a music prodigy with perfect pitch and an ear for hearing tunes. She attended the Junior Academy of Music in London, where she studied violin from 9am to 5pm every Saturday morning before going off on her own adventures as soon as school let out for lunchtime fun! Jane also loved screen printing - this would become one of many creative outlets that eventually led us here at Foster Design Studio today.
Despite a love for screen printing, at seventeen Jane’s talents lay more within music so she left school to study violin and piano. For five years this allowed her time away from screens as well as an opportunity learn how to work hard by practicing hours in solitude
In those days there weren't many female musicians; it gave you something different than just being good with your hands or behind the computer keyboard!
After leaving music college, Jane did her PGCE in music. She then taught for two years as an international development volunteer before moving to Brighton where she still teaches private violin lessons and classroom art at the local school today!
Jane knew she wanted to be a mother for as long as she could remember. After making the decision to leave teaching two weeks before adopting her daughter in 2008, Jane found herself juggling work and motherhood with ease because of how well-prepared both were during this time period. She rediscovered screen printing which allowed for creative outlets outside painting or drawing but still captured what made those activities so much fun!
The Art Group noticed that passion when they saw one woman's artwork on another site—and now we all benefit from such talent
Jane first discovered MAKE International and bought some of their already existing mugs online. Jane's delivery address was directed to ‘Jane Foster Designs’ which sparked the curiosity of Keith Brymer Jones, head designer at MAKE international who looked up her work after hearing about it from another source . He loved what he saw so they got in touch with each other for future collaborations.
Jane has been designing pieces for MAKE International since then, collaborating on a range of haberdashery and kitchen goods. In her studio in Devon she creates colourful designs that are bold but not overbearing to be the perfect statement piece at home.
Jane's collection have been inspired by 60s Scandinavian design which can sometimes come across as playful or child-like because they're so bright yet sophisticated visually - this makes them ideal additions into any modern traditional household
