Dreamfarm’s stated company goal is to “solve a problem and work better than anything else on the planet”. With their award winning, aesthetically pleasing, and highly functional products Dreamfarm has certainly achieved this.
History
Dreamfarm was a concept created in Canberra, Australia by Alexander Gransbury. As with most good ideas the company was formed out of frustration at a problem and a lack of solutions available on the market. At this time it was that Alex was unable to find any product that he could knock out his used coffee grinds into. He came up with the idea for the Grindenstein knock box. Originally a hand made PVC plastic tube, it was originally manufactured in the family home, and sold locally at markets. The Grindenstein was a huge success and still today 15 years a later it is still a massive seller world wide and for us at Hype Design in the UK and Europe. In 2006 and Dreamfarm, with worldwide interest and customers, production was moved abroad to cater for the mass markets.
During 2006 Dreamfarm launched their next super popular product the Scizza. The Scizza was specifically designed as a pizza cutting tool, the quirky but effective turn on that was that it was actually a pair of scissors not a knife or wheel. The Scizza was a roaring success and the money earned from these first two products led Dreamfarm to start creating more and more products. They were quickly followed by the Gripit and the Smood.
The Gripit was a simple concept of a note holder that stuck to the wall using a magnet or 3m tape.
The Smood is a great example of a redesign of a classic product the potato masher. Referred to as “The World Best Potato Masher”. The redesign has a flexible spring that flattens as you push down on it create the perfect soft mash.
Dreamfarm’s rapid expansion would continue through the late 2000’s and early 2010s. Product designer Phil, a key component in their latest designs, joined the company and multiple new products started popping up, to date they have over 30 different original products.
